Putting Your RV into Storage
If you’re like many RV owners, you only use your vehicle during warm weather months. However, winterizing your RV is essential to preventing damage from freezing temperatures. Here are some tips to help you get your RV ready for storage:
- Make sure all systems are properly winterized. This includes both the fresh water and sewage systems. Drain all the water from your pipes and add antifreeze as needed. You should also empty and clean your holding tanks.
- Disconnect all battery-operated devices and appliances. This includes any TVs, radios, or other electronic equipment. It’s also a good idea to disconnect the batteries themselves to prevent them from draining.
- Cover or remove any exposed items. If you have an awning, make sure it’s retracted and secured. Likewise, any outdoor furniture or decorations should be stored indoors.
- Inspect your tires and brakes. Be sure to check the air pressure in your tires and make sure they’re inflated to the proper level. You should also inspect your brakes and grease them if necessary.
- Lastly, don’t forget to clean your RV inside and out before putting it into storage. This will help to prevent mold and mildew from developing while it’s not in use.
